Gatão canned white wine has arrived! The historic Portuguese brand, dating back to 1905, remains a market leader. Rebranded in 2019, the iconic Gatão reveals a new facet which will give everyone something to talk about! A must-have, something which Gatão already has!

It is already a major trend in several markets and has just arrived in Portugal. Gatão has advanced and can now reveal something absolutely unprecedented: Gatão in a can! Accordingly, it is one of the first brands of Portuguese wine to assume this innovative and trendy concept.

With a contemporary, creative design, conveying a young, fresh image, just like the wine’s profile, canned Gatão promises to bring success to shelves, and much more. Beach, swimming pool, country and picnics are just a few examples of places where Gatão Can brings out all of its perfection. It is the ideal company for moments of conviviality with friends and uncomplicated consumption. Quick and easy to open, it is also light to carry and will fit in any refrigerator. Its smallest format with very thin walls, chills faster, making for less energy consumption than the traditional bottled version.

The new 250 ml format provides responsible and sustainable consumption. The blend, renowned, comes from the traditional vines of the Vinho Verde region: Azal, Pedernã, Trajadura, Avesso and Loureiro. Consumers will enjoy its young flavour, characterised by lemony hints, nuances of passion fruit and pineapple and a unique and distinctive bouquet. Its moderate alcohol content and perfect balance of acidity and sweetness result in a blend perfect for summer days!

It is unquestionable, the excellent level of conservation reached by canned wine, always remaining as fresh as ever. The opaque walls and their material block entry of light and oxygen and the level of gasification has been studied to perpetuate that refreshing sensation. Borges embarked on a variety of canning process tests over a year ago now, with as much rigour and demand as ever, to ensure Gatão wine the same profile, behaviour, quality and longevity, although now canned. Since the very beginning, we have guaranteed that Gatão Vinho Branco has maintained the same character and freshness as ever, just in a different format!”, says Borges’ Director of Production, Miguel Carvalheira.

Canned Gatão is more environmentally friendly, reducing the carbon footprint! Overall, the rate at which aluminum cans are recycled is nearly three times that of glass. Less energy for refrigeration is combined with less energy for carrying a can: less space, less weight... less consumption!

“Gatão Can is just what young wine consumers are looking for today: environment, functionality and outdoor consumption. We are reaching out to new generations, bringing new consumers to wine. This project began as a challenge launched by a few markets in which we operate, and which previously thought up the concept of canned wine. We ultimately found that our Gatão wine had the ideal profile to follow this trend: young, fresh, with a low alcohol content, refreshing and seductive. This natural profile of wine places us ahead of other international concepts that exist in cans and gives us great enthusiasm and motivation in this project”, points out JMV Group Director of Sales, Gil Frias.

The attractive, coloured image, remaining loyal to the charisma of the entire Gatão line, is once again endorsed by Atelier Rita Rivotti.
